Congratulations to Highlands Elementary School’s 2016-2017 Student Council Members! HES Student Council is advised by Mrs. Dena Cook and is a large part of the school community. In addition to reading off the morning and afternoon announcements, Student Council members also have monthly meetings where they vote on a variety of items such as dress-up days, fundraisers and special events.
In October, HES held their annual student council elections as well as the first school spirit day of the year. In November they hosted a school wide holiday food drive. As a special incentive, the club turned the food drive into a contest and donated a $20 gift card to the student with the most cans. In February, the Student Council will be hosting an after school Holiday Movie for grades K-3 right around Valentine's Day. Each year the Student Council also donates money to a special organization. In the past they have donated to the American Heart Association, War Dogs Association and Pennies for Patients. This year, students have mentioned donating to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The ASPCA and Toys for Tots.
