HIGHLANDS TEACHER EVALUATION SYSTEM, SY 2009-2010

Introduction

As part of the federal requirements for states receiving funding under Phase 2 of the State Fiscal Stabilization Funds Program, all school districts in New Jersey are providing information to the public on the procedures they use to evaluate teachers and principals. The information presented below will help you understand Highlands Elementary School’s policies and procedures for evaluating teachers and other educational specialists.

Confidentiality concerns: To protect the confidentiality of individual evaluations, districts are not required to provide a district-level statistical summary of teacher evaluation outcomes in those cases where there are fewer than 10 teachers in an entire district. Similarly, districts are not required to provide a school-level statistical summary of teacher evaluation outcomes if there are fewer than 10 teachers in a school.

Section 1. Description of Teacher Evaluation System

Highlands Elementary School is a one-school district that currently uses the Charlotte Danielson’s Teacher Evaluation Framework for teacher evaluation. In addition for formal observations, the district also includes walk-through observations, pre and/or post observations conferences, lesson plans, professional improvement plans, and progress toward the 100 mandate when completing the evaluation process. As per district policy, all tenured staff members are formally observed a minimum of one time per year and all non-tenured staff members are formally observed a minimum of three times per year.

The Highlands Elementary School process of teacher evaluation aligns with the district’s mission to, “require an active and responsible partnership of students, staff, community, and school board.
