The purpose of homework is to reinforce the learning that goes on in the classroom, to develop good study habits, and to foster responsibility.
Establishing a homework routine seems to be the most effective way to ensure continued success with homework. Take a moment at the beginning of the school year to discuss the time and location homework will be completed each night. Make sure that your child has plenty of school supplies on hand at home, including sharpened pencils, art supplies, scissors, calculator and ruler.
The two best ways you can support our school’s curriculum at home is by encouraging independent reading and helping your child practice their math facts. I also suggest visits to the public library, and allowing students to self-select reading materials that catch their interest. Fostering good reading habits at an early age helps children become proficient readers and life-long learners.
